Albany PreSchool Staff

Philosophy
Staff

We at Albany Preschool are extremely proud of our outstanding and dedicated teaching staff, many of whom were once themselves parents of APS students. Our staff meet all state requirements for their positions. Every member of our staff has had years of experience working with children. As a cooperative preschool, our students' learning environment is also enriched by the loving involvement of parent volunteers in the classroom. You can learn a bit about our staff below, but more importantly, please come and visit so that we can meet you in person!

Teacher Tara
Tara
AM Director & Administrator

Tara, our morning director and administrator at Albany Preschool, has more than 16 years of experience working as a teacher, lead teacher, and supervisor. She has a BA in Human Development with an option in Early Childhood, an AA in Liberal Arts, and holds an Early Childhood Site Supervisor Permit with the state of California. In working with young children, she loves being able to experience the joys of childhood all over again by seeing things through their eyes. Tara believes that children learn best through an open exploration of their environment, so she works hard to make sure activities are fun and hands-on. Tara has been most impressed by the support and care offered by both the parents and teachers, and she is so thankful that she's a part of the APS family.

Teacher Susy
Teacher Susy
PM Director & Summer Program Director

Susy has been a valuable part of Albany Preschool for 22 years; first as a parent, then as a teacher, and now as the head teacher for the morning program and teacher/director for both the afternoon and the summer programs. She loves being at Albany Preschool because the school is "full of life and love, very community-oriented, and a great multicultural place to be." There are years where we have students from all over the world, which makes the preschool a wonderfully diverse place. Susy is thankful that, in this setting, we all learn important lessons about different cultures and customs.

Teacher Cindy
Head Teacher

Cindy has a rich history at Albany Preschool, as her children attended the school 21 years ago, and she's been on the teaching staff for 11 years! Cindy says, "What I love most about being a preschool teacher is how much the children end up teaching me." She especially appreciates the children's sense of humor and enthusiasm for learning and for life.

Teacher Nigat
Teacher Nighat
Teacher Aid

Nighat has been a part of the school for over 15 years, first as a parent volunteer while her children attended, then as a substitute, and finally as a teacher for the past seven years. Nighat believes that preschool is fundamentally important to build the social skills children need to help them in the future. She appreciates that Albany Preschool is a very close-knit community, creating a unique and wonderful learning environment for the children.
